WORCESTER city centre is a friendly place to visit according to mystery shoppers.
Those were the findings of independent company Storecheckers who assessed 76 businesses to see how their customer service fared.
The mystery shoppers found staff at Worcester’s shops and businesses were very welcoming and friendly when people came in. However, they told the city’s organisations they should try and encourage customers to buy more.
The results were announced at a Customer Service Awards night when the businesses which scored the highest were celebrated. Those at the event were also urged to try to promote Worcester to their customers. Worcester BID, a not-for-profit organisation which helps promote trade, funded the assessments.
One business that did well was independent cafe deli Mason’s Olive and Bean in Pump Street which opened last August. The cafe deli scored 96 per cent for its customer service.
Becky Mason, owner of Mason’s Olive and Bean, said: “It was fantastic. We were completely shocked, surprised and absolutely over the moon.” Amanda Attwood, manager at Rock Lobster, said staff were ecstatic at achieving a 100 per cent score. She said: “I think even though we did really well it’s good feedback and there’s always room for improvement.”
George Pickard, associate at Knight Frank, said: “We did exceptionally well. We were very proud.”
BID manager Adrian Field said: “The independent researchers found that employees in Worcester businesses are superb.” Next month the organisation will offer subsidised training.
