A mystery shopping company performs secret shops on businesses. These professional companies provide an inside look at the operations within a company as the customer sees them. Hiring a company to perform mystery shops, as they are called, allows the business owner to understand what is happening in their location when they are not there. This may be used for incentives, rewards, employee training, customer satisfaction improvement and much more.

Instructions

1. Determine why you wish to hire a mystery shopping company as well as what you would like them to check. Companies will design a mystery shop around your specific requirements and needs, including checking service times, cleanliness, selling techniques, displays and employee interactions.

2. Contact several mystery shopping companies to request a quote for their service. Most mystery shopping companies will perform an interview to determine what is required from them, for you. During this interview, ask questions about what is provided, the timeliness of reports, the frequency of visits and the cost per visit.

3. Create a customized mystery shopping report and scenario to fit your goals for the program. Work with the mystery shopping company to determine the best options for your needs including what actions the mystery shopper is to perform, when, how long to wait, and what criteria they will need to show proof of their visit. The most complex and thorough the shop is, the more expensive, yet beneficial they will be.

4. Consider unique shops to give you a better idea of what occurs in your customer's eye. Options include buy and return shops, pointed interactions between the shopper and the employee, reward shops for successful shops, merchandising shops and checks and follow up call shops.

5. Contract a mystery shopping company after all information and details have been worked out. Outline payments, shop requirements, deadlines for completion and consequences for not getting the shops completed.
